2018 Bursary Application Season 1 May - 31 Aug 2017

2018 Bursary Application Season 1 May - 31 Aug 2017

The sub-menus provides information on StudyTrust's sponsored bursaries. A prospective student only has to submit one single application form. Each application will automatically be considered for all the bursaries for which a particular applicant qualifies. That means that an application for e.g. a FNB Fund bursary will also be considered for a StudyTrust access bursary and vice versa. You will however be required to indicate which is your first choice, e.g. "Investec".

StudyTrust awards sponsored bursaries based on academic merit, financial need and according to the sponsors requirements.

Overview

ProMaths Bursary FundBackground
Promaths, is a programme delivered by Kutlwanong Maths, Science and Technology Centre, the programme was in response to the low Maths and science results in the high schools, and has aimed to support high school learners to improve their performance in Maths and Science. The programme is funded by Investec and a number of other funders.

With an 11 year history and track record, Promaths prides itself in not just producing learners who are strong in Maths and Science but also learners who are well rounded, ambitious, disciplined, and achievers against all odds. These students have, as a result of the programme gone on to pursue being active economic participants, self-employed and leaders in their own right.

In spite of Promaths’ success, not all of the beneficiaries are able to secure bursaries for tertiary studies, for that reason there is a need for a Promaths Bursary Fund, specifically designed for Promaths alumni who don’t have funds to pursue their tertiary studies.

Standard Bank

Standard Bank, in partnership with StudyTrust, offers full cost bursaries to students who have demonstrated academic and leadership potential, who are currently in Grade 12 and will be in their first (1st) year of study in 2018.

Standard Bank 150 Bursary Programmes

In honour of Standard Bank’s 150th anniversary in 2012, we launched our 150 Bursary fund, providing full-cost sponsorship designed to promote academic excellence and shape the next generation of African talent and African leaders.

Imfundo Trust, is a scholarship initiative of the Old Mutual Investment Group (OMIG) that aims to address the shortage of black investment professionals and grow the pool of suitably qualified individuals in the asset management industry.

The Imfundo Trust (“Imfundo” means “education” in Zulu), has spent approximately R4m per annum on university scholarships since its inception in 2011. It focussed on  assisting deserving black students – with a special focus on women – to acquire tertiary training at selected top South African universities.  We have between 30 and 40 beneficiaries on the programme per annum.

DAFI

Since 1992, the Albert Einstein German Academic Refugee Programme (DAFI, referred to by its German acronym Deutsche Akademische Flüchtlingsinitiative) has provided scholarships to more than 6.000 deserving refugees worldwide to study at universities in their host country and, more recently, in their country of origin upon return. Financed by the Government of Germany, DAFI has been and remains a unique opportunity for refugees to continue higher education while outside their country of origin. Through scholarships for university education, DAFI contributes to the search for durable solutions for individuals of concern under UNHCR’s mandate, who through this support have been enabled to provide vital support towards the reconstruction of conflict affected countries.

investec

Investec, in partnership with StudyTrust, offers partial bursaries to students who aim to study full time towards an undergraduate degree in Commerce, Business Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or a Commercial LLB. These degrees represent fields of relevance to the financial services and other key industries.

FNB

The FNB Fund Bursary Programme provides tertiary education access for learners who are academically capable but financially disadvantaged. An FNB Fund sponsored bursary administered by StudyTrust is a  partial bursary.

Applicants are thus advised to also apply through the Financial Aid Office of their university of choice for a study loan from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) to cover the shortfall. Terms and conditions apply.

avi

AVI Limited is a company that owns some of South Africa’s most familiar and well-loved brands. From Koffiehuis to House of Coffees, Baker’s Biscuits to Willard Chips, the company is part of the lives of most South Africans. AVI’s CSI programme represents its support of initiatives that fall outside of its day-to-day enterprise, which are intended to bring about positive social and economic changes to historically disadvantaged communities and to enhance the environment in which the company operates. The company's primary focus areas are education and skills development, arts and culture, and the environment. The annual AVI CSI Budget is determined by allocating 1% of company pre-tax profits in the preceding year. The AVI Bursary Programme is one of the company’s major initiatives. This Programme distinguishes itself by the commitment of the company to its bursary beneficiaries. Not only do they arrange vacation work opportunities for all their bursars, but they also provide graduate development positions to students who completed their studies. The company also runs a volunteer industry mentor programme for its bursars and StudyTrust employees are regularly benefitting from the mentor training offered by AVI’s Learning and Development department. The company also offers vacation work opportunities to non-AVI sponsored students through its Spitz and Kurt Gaigher stores. StudyTrust works with some of the company’s other beneficiary programmes, e.g. the Kliptown project and Star Schools, providing bursaries for alumni of these programmes who do qualify for further and tertiary education.
